8 Mile Marathon Training Run

I just got back from doing an 8 mile run/walk. I was originally planning on getting up at 5:45 AM this morning, but was lazy, and stayed in bed instead. So I went out tonight, at around 6:30 PM to go for my run. It took me 1 hour 36 minutes, certainly not a land speed record, but I am improving. The first time I ran this distance, it took me almost 2 hours to complete.

8 miles is still along ways from the 26.2 miles of a full marathon, but I've got to start somewhere. I'm doing the Disney Marathon on January 11th, 2009, so I still have a bit of time to get some training runs in!

Volunteer at Marathon of the Palm Beaches

My friend, Shannon Cash, just forwarded me the following information on volunteering at the
Marathon of the Palm Beaches which takes place on Sunday, December 7th, 2008. Shannon,
and my husband Rob, have both signed up to volunteer at this event, as part of the Bike Patrol.
They will be sweeping the course to see if any runners need assistance during the marathon.

I will be running in my very first half marathon at this event, as a training run for the Disney
Marathon, as part of the Palm Beach Team in Training marathon team. Team in Training is
the main fundraising program for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.



Volunteer Registration Now Open!

The call has gone out for the more than 1,000 volunteers needed to "run" one of the most
exciting events of the year--- the 5th Annual Marathon of the Palm Beaches, to be
held Dec.5 – Dec.7 in downtown West Palm Beach. See our website for the complete schedule
of events. This is a unique opportunity for volunteers to sample behind the scene operations
of a successful and professionally managed running event.

Race organizers are encouraging volunteers to register online. Volunteers may choose from
17 interesting categories where assistance is needed. Please go to our website under

of opportunity.

All volunteers will receive an official Marathon of the Palm Beaches T-shirt and will be invited
to the post race party on Sunday, December 7th at the Meyer Amphitheatre. Volunteers must
be 16 years of age to participate unless in a group with adult supervision then 13 to 15 year
olds are allowed. We appreciate the support and enthusiasm of all our volunteers and in
advance we thank our entire team of volunteers who have generously donated their time and
effort to make this year's event a spectacular success.

14th Annual Buddy Walk


Due to financial constraints, my husband and I usually enjoy making coffee at home, in lieu of purchasing a cup of joe at the local coffee shops. The other day, we gave in and went to Starbucks. As I was waiting for my venti caramel macchiato soy, I saw a display of brochures for the Buddy Walk.

I picked up a brochure so I could add the details of the event to the Charity Fitness Events site. The Buddy Walk benefits the National Down Syndrome Society.

WHAT
14th Annual Buddy Walk. One mile advocacy walk or 5K (3.1 mile) fitness walk/run.

WHEN
Sunday, October 19th, 2008.

WHERE
John Prince Park center drive pavilion, Lake Worth, Florida.

DETAILS
Registration begins at 8:00 AM. Walk begins at 9:00 AM. Register by October 9th for $12 per person. Registration the day of the walk is $20 per person. Registration includes the walk, t-shirt, refreshments and entertainment.

AVDA 5K Race in Delray Beach


AVDA 5K Run/Walk

Help STOP Domestic Violence! Saturday, October 11, 2008, Anchor Park (A1A), Delray Beach. The AVDA (Aid to Victim's of Domestic Abuse) 5K Run/Walk is held each year in Delray Beach along A1A. It's a great day for a family outing and all ages can participate in the 5K, which is only 3.1 miles long! Get out those running/walking shoes! We challenge local companies, schools and organizations to form teams and participate! To add to the excitement of the day, teams or individuals who raise the most funds are awarded prizes. Race Bibs

Will be issued on race morning to all runners / walkers in the 5K. Bibs must be picked up at least 20 - 30 minutes prior to the start.

Chip Timing

The 5K Run / Walk will be chip timed. All participants must pick-up their timing chip at least 20 - 30 minutes prior to the race start. The timing chip must be worn during the 5K Run / Walk or the participant will not be eligible for any awards or listed in the results. All participants will be charged $30 if they fail to return the timing chip to the volunteers at the finish line.

Awards

Awards in the 5K Run / Walk will be given to the top 3 overall M/Fs, the top master M/F and to the top 3 M/Fs in the following age group categories: 0-9, 10-14, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70+.

Post Race Party

After the race, enjoy a terrific post race party with food and beverages, music, face painting, entertainment and raffle prices. After all...you've earned it by working up a sweat and making a difference in your community!!!
